Hull Youth For Christ

Schools Work

Hull YFC has been going into local schools since it began. Originally both primary and secondary schools were visited all over the city, but since 2002 it has focussed on the local primary schools. The work done has taken many forms e.g. self-esteem lessons, drama and dance workshops, assemblies, teacher's aid, XL clubs (these are mainly run for pupils who are either out of school or at risk of exclusion), PHSCE lessons as well as help with trips and events. We see schools work as integral to the charity's involvement in the community. It is not only our paid staff who go into schools but we also encourage volunteers to work alongside us. The teachers value the support we give them as they are working in a very difficult environment. Our involvement helps take some of the pressure off and is certainly beneficial to the children's learning.
