Hull Youth For Christ

Oh Happy Day!

Earlier this summer we had the privilege of baptising three of our friends and young people up at Hull Community Church. It was an incredible and moving day as family and friends came together to celebrate the commitment that Andy, John Paul and Lee were making to God. The culmination of many years of God-inspired meetings, chats and just spending time together, these young men had all expressed a desire to take this step in their journey and asked us to be a part of it. The day was a real community event with friends leading worship and bringing along cakes and nibbles for the party afterwards, and with the opportunity for us all to join together in writing prayers down for the guys to take on with them.

But enough of me talking! On the day, we asked each of the guys to introduce themselves and to explain why this was important for them; three months later, we asked them the same questions. Take it away boys…

“I’m Andy (30), from the Boulevard and I have been involved with HYFC for nearly 4 years as a volunteer. Being baptised was important for me because all my life I have been seen by family and friends as a joker, so it was important to show people I was serious about my faith.” (We have recently been given funding to employ Andy to work for us part time).

“I’m John Paul, I’m 15 and I’ve lived in Hull all my life. I’ve known the team for about 10yrs, and have been involved in just about all of the all the clubs, etc. Being around the team for so long meant that I saw their faith and decided that it was something I wanted for myself. It was important for me to be baptised because I wanted to show people my age that this is something I’m committed to.”

“Hey I’m Lee, I’m 22 years old, from Hull and work in a admin based job in the city. I have been involved with the youth clubs as well as on mission to Bolivia, twice with HYFC and once on my own for six months, to work with street teenagers. The baptism day itself was amazing, being able to tell my story of how working in Bolivia and seeing the poverty made me realise that I was blessed and loved by God. It opened my eyes to his love and I can see it in what he’s doing now in my life by leading worship in my church.”
