A Different Angle
I first got involved with Hull Youth for Christ when I was 4 - 5ish, when I started going to the Breakfast Club and Friday Club. Over the years I’ve been to Zone 3, Wednesday Youth Club, summer camps and more recently I’ve started to go to the Tuesday meal.
I’m in year 10 at Sydney Smith School and we are given the opportunity to do a week’s work experience. I decided to do it with Hull YFC because I’ve known them for such a long time and I wanted to know what other stuff they did apart from the clubs.
I had a great week working with the Youth for Christ team. I’ve got to know the kids at the clubs and now I know how much hard work they do for them. It was great to get a chance to go behind the scenes of Youth for Christ! I’ve learnt that Hull Youth for Christ are all about the kids and the families, for example they’re there to help the mums that have their husbands/partners walk out on them and are left to look after their kids on their own. And that’s one of the reasons why they do the clubs, to give the kids something to do, to get them out of the house and give them new hope, as well as give the mums a break.
I had the chance to help with the Mum’s Night and it was great. I helped serve the food and drinks. It was a really good night and the mums looked like they had a great time and really enjoyed themselves.
I was going to put my favourite part of the week but the truth is I loved it all and I can’t pick a favourite part.
