Andy’s Summer

Wow, what a summer!

I’m Andy. I have been helping out with Hull YFC for two years with the Breakfast Club, Zone 3, Wednesday youth clubs and just recently the Thursday club, and this summer I also got involved with the camps.

When I was asked if I wanted to go and help out at Frontier Camp I jumped at the chance, any thing to help give the kids a good time. Before I went I talked to some of the kids who had been the previous year; they said how much fun they had and couldn’t wait to go again. So off we went in two minibuses and a car. I was glad I wasn’t the only one going for the first time, with the likes of James Lowe and some of the kids, but was so glad I went.

I thought it was a good week throughout, really completely stress free. I think it was that so many people from different parts of Britain come together and work so well as a team to make sure the kids have such a great time. I also loved the role as tent partner as I got to get to know the kids whilst helping on the various activities. Also, with that role, it helped with my confidence to work with the kids more and make decisions.

When we got back Chris asked me about Greenbelt and if I wanted to go. Again I jumped at the chance to get to know the group from the Tuesday night meal ... and wow, what a scream we all had! I got a new name (Kes) thanks to Cameron and James. We had such a great weekend. Some of the things I visited whilst at Greenbelt really hit home and made me think a bit more about a few things.

I came back from Greenbelt as exhausted as when I got back from camp, but I had a really fantastic summer and was happy I got asked to go.

Andy (a.k.a. Kes!)
